Choosing Power & Company really can make all the difference to settling your insurance claim

Case study:
Commercial fire

Mr P had an established and successful fashion business operating from a large warehouse. During the hours of darkness he witnessed, via a CCTV link, his premises and entire livelihood going up in smoke. By daylight the devastation was clear, the warehouse, stock and everything else in it was completely destroyed.

A few days later Mr P approached us following a personal recommendation, to ask if we would take on his insurance claim. We agreed and arranged to meet the insurance company’s representatives and to organise alternative premises so that Mr P could continue trading. We also negotiated various interim payments to rbe made to Mr P so that he could replenish items of stock and some office equipment to continue trading.

Over the following months, we instructed surveyors and organised a re-build of the warehouse as well as settling the claim for the stock loss and business interruption. Eventually Mr P returned to his rebuilt warehouse complete with new fixtures, fittings and contents, enabling him to continue trading successfully.

Residential fire

Mrs M left her home mid-morning to meet friends for lunch. At 1.00pm smoke was seen by neighbours coming from a downstairs window and the fire brigade was called. Eventually Mrs M was contacted and she returned to find her home heavily smoke damaged with structural damage to the utility room and bedroom upstairs. She immediately contacted Power & Company and we took up her claim.

We recommended that she and her family move into hotel accommodation activating the accommodation allowance under her buildings and contents policy. Unusually, it only provided enough funds for a six month let so we knew we had to work fast We negotiated a successful settlement for the re-building works and the contents claim was agreed and paid within 12 weeks for the full sum insured. We also oversaw the surveyors and contractors during the rebuilding works.

The family returned to a fully restored property before the six month tenancy on the rented house expired.

Burglary

Property company in east London had squatters break into their building. After three weeks the squatters were evicted. There was damage throughout to the lift, wiring, decorations, heating & lighting. Metal was stripped from the building. We secured a complete re-wire, replacement lighting, new flooring, redecoration, new security & fire alarms and two new kitchens. The lift was overhauled and a new hydraulic unit supplied and fitted. Insurers paid for loss of rent throughout. The solicitors fees relating to the eviction were also paid by insurers. The property has now been re-let.
